Flying Carpets

David Schorr’s exhibition “Flying Carpets” opens January 5 at Ryan Lee Gallery, where his work is display through February 18. The series draws inspiration from a childhood pastime of his: playing with toy trucks and racecars on the Persian rugs at his grandmother’s house.

Go Tell It on the Mountain and Giovanni’s Room dramatized the conflict between a longing for a private life, even a spiritual life, and the ways in which history and politics intrude most insidiously into the very rooms we try hardest to shut them out of.
